Heat Feast...... Sydney.....

Well, the heat was turned up for the Sydney Marathon!! Centennial Park was a dead zone. Lots were dropping pace, dying slowing and could see so many people really hurting and struggling with the heat and the pace they had been running. Obviously with the heat having to recess the pace and slow it down due to the hat and its effects on the system.

Coming straight back to Australia from Europe. The temps in Europe were just as hot, 33 degrees but the heat is different over there. So good to see everyone out there racing and representing. Congratulations to everyone that raced over the weekend!

Congrats Mitch and Ange, Tanja, Colin, Linda, John, Adam, Jody, Andrew, Shayne and Iain on their Marathon achievements in those conditions.

Back on deck from this week and excited to catch up with everyone !! See you all soon

ATHLETE INTERVIEW

  • Lake Takepo Ultra 50km

What shoes did you wear? Hoka Mafate 4

What went well? The whole race came together really well. I ran relatively conservatively as it was my first 50km - I didn't know if I'd make the distance! And was really pleased to still have fuel in the tank coming into the last 5km.

What didn't work or went bad? Still can't find the right supplement mix... I was pretty over lemon flavour by the end of it!

How did you overcome the challenge? This race is really well supported with aid stations, so I was able to change up my usual supply (Koda and Naak) with Tailwind, Coke ans water along the way.

What was the best part of the event? This is an epic destination run. The NZ scenery is just beautiful.

Did you celebrate? Absolutely. Lunch on the lake and then off to the Tekapo Hot Springs!

What’s next? A little quieter for us over the next few weeks, looking forward to getting back into some local training runs. The next races on the cards are Bouddhi Coastal Run in November and Honolulu Marathon in December.... but I'm sure there be some others snuck into the calendar as well

COACHES CORNER -

ATHLETES QUESTIONS - What is easier - UTMB or a Road Marathon

  • My legs were sorer, and it was harder to walk after the marathon on Sunday :) Legs were sore after UTMB but the road really beat up my legs from the straight running for 3 + hours and the centennial park section, the surface was hard, and I could notice the different in the pounding on the road. But of course, wasn't as hard as UTMB, being only 42k I could mentally prepare my mind for pushing through the pain and soreness of the legs.

QF’s WITH BENN (quick facts) Points of Europe

  • What was the highlight - UTMB - Nicole Seeing the Eiffel Tower at Night

  • Favorite Country or City - France - Saint Gervais. Little town soaking in the town and French livestyle and or Prague the Beers

  • What not to do in Europe - Listen to Nicole when she says, she’ll be right, don’t worry about a ticket

  • What did you buy - Only some UTMB merch, as couldn't fit anything else in bags, Nicole got magnets and kids and mum gifts

  • What would you change for next trip - Plan to go the coast

  • What was your Favorite Beer and Food - The Affilgem in Paris (or any in Prague) Pizza in Italy (Florance) or the Baggette's in France, Had a Cesar Salads everywhere as well
